John Sargent is a Managing Director and Private Advisor at Rockefeller Capital Management.

Before joining Rockefeller in 2020, John worked in Private Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley from 2003-2020. Prior to his experience in the financial services industry, John worked at the Wall Street Journal, where he helped launch the highly successful “Weekend Journal.”

Every year since 2012, John has ranked by Barron’s as one of the Top 100 Financial Advisors in New York and the Top 1200 Financial Advisors in America. He was also named by the Financial Times as one of America’s Top 400 Financial Advisors in 2016, 2017 and 2018 and was named by Forbes as one of New York’s Top Financial Advisors in 2018, 2022 and 2023.*

John has been interviewed and quoted extensively in industry publications, sharing his views on asset allocation, value investing, investment manager selection and growing a private wealth management business.

John graduated from Yale University with a B.A. in History (with distinction) and holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

A native of Southern California, John and his wife Heather live in Greenwich, Conn., with their four children. He is active in his community as a soccer and basketball coach and is the head usher at his family’s church, Christ Church Greenwich.

John is a former trustee of General Theological Seminary, the oldest and largest Episcopal Seminary in the United States, situated on three acres in the middle of Chelsea in New York City.  John and his wife Heather are also active fundraising chairs for the JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation — and participate annually in the Walk for the Cure over the Brooklyn bridge and the support the JDRF New York City Marathon team.
